Senior Aides In Action

Serendipity Strikes Computer-Phobic Senior Aide

Ruth Wilson had been performing office/clerical work while on the Senior AIDES Program but always resisted learning the computer. Whenever asked about it, she would politely but firmly refuse to even consider learning. When she was due to be transferred to a different training assignment, the Senior AIDES Program Director at Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency in Pontiac, MI scheduled Ruth to work in a department where computer proficiency was not needed. However, Ruth accidentally reported to the wrong department, and ended up at the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) instead. Although TEFAP hadn't expected the assistance of a Senior Aide, they thanked their lucky stars and happily put Ruth to work. The mistake soon came to light, but by that time Ruth had settled into TEFAP and was fitting in beautifully. Not only does Ruth love her work, but she became so inspired by her new position that she finally signed up for computer lessons!
