Students at Friendship Elementary School learned the value of work during an Older Americans Month Event in Martin , TN on May 6 th.

Polly Sorrell and Ida Davis, both over 75 years old, work at Friendship Elementary and were honored for the dedication and years of experience that they bring to their jobs. As part of the recognition ceremony, students created letters, cards or other items to express appreciation. The students honored the ladies with gift presentations and hugs.

"The gratitude that the children expressed truly overwhelmed the ladies," said Melinda Goode, Senior AIDES Project Director at Northwest Tennessee Human Resource Agency. Goode spoke briefly to the students about what it means to be a good worker, and encouraged them to strive in the future for the same work ethic that Sorrell and Davis demonstrate.

Goode also honored other older workers during Older Americans Month with a series of articles published in the Weakley County Press Newspaper.
