Seniors Have a Ball in Northwest Alabama

Over 500 senior citizens and college students danced the night away at the first Annual Seniors' Winter Ball, held on February 17 at the University of North Alabama (UNA) Guillot Center in Florence, AL.
"The atmosphere of the ball was very festive and I truly enjoyed myself," said senior attendee Eva Caldwell.
This evening of music, fun and intergenerational memory-making was a joint effort of the Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments (NACOLG) and UNA. The free event was inspired out of reverence and respect for the seniors of the Northwest Alabama community, and offered the opportunity for seniors and students to mingle and enjoy themselves. Attendees had the opportunity to win door prizes and take home commemorative photos of the evening, and free transportation was provided for those requesting it.
"The Ball brought together the seniors and students in an event that everyone could look forward to and enjoy," said Jeraldene Mansell, Project Director of NACOLG's Senior AIDES Program. "It was a huge success."
Sponsors included NACOLG, UNA, Citizens Bank, Alabama Healthcare, Buffalo Rock, Ray Miller Buick, PSI and Clear Channel Radio. With such a successful turnout and the good times had by all, the dance is sure to be an even bigger hit next year!
