Barbara Knight Receives Media Star Award
Who says you only get 15 minutes of fame?
Barbara Knight, Project Director of the Southeast Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission in Dothan, Alabama, has appeared on TV for more than 15 minutes in the past few months, making cameos to to promote her Senior AIDES Program. Overcoming her natural shyness, Barbara gave a persuasive and poised interview on local CBS affiliate WTVY News Channel 4 about the benefits of hiring older workers and the support services that are available to seniors through the program.
As a result, Senior Service America has decided to extend her time in the limelight by honoring her with the newly established Media Star Award. This award recognizes Barbara’s efforts to educate the community about the Senior AIDES Program through innovative media and marketing.
Though Barbara is the first recipient, all project staff are eligible to be considered for future awards. The Media Star Award will be bestowed periodically to a project staff person who demonstrates outstanding marketing efforts in generating television, radio or print media coverage of their Senior AIDES program. At the annual conference, Senior Service America will present a “Star of the Year” award to recognize exemplary work in media outreach.
To be considered for the Media Star Award, send your news articles, radio show transcripts, TV video clips, event write-ups, photographs or any other newsworthy media to Don Rounds in the External Relations Department. In addition to the award, we’ll also be highlighting selected media on our website.
