National Employ Older Workers Week 2004
September 19-25, 2004
As the generation of baby boomers ages, older adults will account for a growing percentage of the labor force. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2000 13 percent of the workforce was age 55 or older; by 2015 that number is expected to rise to 20 percent.
In this climate, it is not surprising to find more and more employers focusing on hiring the older worker. From September 19 to 25, 2004 this effort is recognized during National Employ Older Workers Week.
First celebrated in the Eisenhower Administration, and celebrated nearly every year since that time, National Employ Older Workers Week is an important opportunity for elected officials, employers, and the general public to highlight the vital role of older workers.
