Silver Spring, Md.—Senior Service America Inc. celebrates the contributions of older workers to the nation's libraries during National Library Week (April 6–12).

Agencies and libraries throughout the United States participate in the Senior AIDES program, employing low-income seniors in jobs providing service to the community. In events in Baltimore, Chicago and Pittsburgh, Senior Service America Executive Director Anthony R. Sarmiento recognized these valuable contributions.

“Older workers have the wisdom gained through years of experience and the understanding that comes with that wisdom,” Sarmiento says. “What better way is there to build on that knowledge—and form bonds between generations—than to put seniors to work in libraries?”

National Library Week, sponsored by the American Library Association, showcases America's libraries through the @ your library™ campaign.

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) of Senior Service America is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration. SCSEP is an equal opportunity program. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.
