How older Ohioans overcame age—and poverty—to serve their communities: The story of SCSEP
Over the next decade, persons 55 and older will account for three-quarters of the growth in the nation's labor force. In Ohio, this statistic jumps dramatically, with projections showing that all workforce growth will come from the 55 and older set.
This demographic shift, coupled with a rise in poverty among older adults, suggests that this population will be in need of more workforce- development services. A major revamping of the nation’s workforce development system is needed to address emerging realities, including a rising demand for services like those offered by the federally funded Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), which provides job training for low-income older adults, the study suggests.
"Giving Back" tells the story of older Ohioans who overcame not only age but also poverty to serve their communities through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).
